Our Part in the Green Movement

Enjoy Something Moore, Enjoy Something Different, Come Stay With Us!
We’re Going Green! Our Part in the Green Movement…
The Inn at the Bryant House is proud to join our fellow members of the tourism industry in an effort to help our beautiful planet.
What we are doing:

  1. Maintain a Historic Property. Did you know by maintaining an historic property it is considered Green? Think of all the wasted building materials from tearing down one structure to build another one. By maintaining our historic property we are not only preserving history we are also helping the environment! According to our home inspector the Inn was built so well in the early 1900’s that it will be here for at least a 100 more years if not longer!
  1. Use Cloth Napkins. We save space in our landfills by using cloth napkins.
  2. Energy Efficent Appliances & Energy Efficient Light Bulbs. We use CFC energy efficient light bulbs in almost every light fixture in the Inn.
  3. Because we have a large older home, we are trying new and updated methods for heating the Inn such as installing small electric energy efficient fireplaces, they are not only energy efficient but also create a romantic and warm ambiance for any room! We also have fans that not only cool rooms but are also heaters! We purchase energy star appliances whenever possible.
Ceiling fans throughout the Inn to circulate the air and reduce dependence on more costly heat and air methods. We wash dishes and linens only when there is a full load
  1. Certified Wildlife Habitat. We are now a Certified Wildlife Habitat. We are so blessed to have many beautiful birds that live on our property such as blue jays, and cardinals. We want to keep them welcome here for generations to come. One of the conditions of being a Certified Wildlife Habitat is to have only plants and trees from the area. By having only native plants on our property, we help in water conservation efforts to reduce the amount of water some plants from other regions may require.
  1. We grow and buy local produce. Living in North Carolina is a real advantage when it comes to purchasing local produce. So much of our food can be grown locally. Buying locally grown food not only tastes great and helps out the local economy, but it also reduces the costs and air pollution for gas to fill large tanks for big trucks that have to travel far distances or even ships over seas.
  1. We recycle .As of right now our town does not have curb side recycling. We take it upon ourselves to take our recycled waste to the local recycling center- recycled waste account for about half of our regular trash- reducing trash in our landfills.
  1. We Buy Antiques: Instead of buying new furniture we look for antiques- they are always well built and have withstood time and trends. They fit with the genre of the Inn and in many cases could be the same cost as new furniture.
  1. Encourage local shopping and businesses. We always promote visiting our local restaurants and shops within walking distance of the Inn. We have several wonderful places to eat including: La Poblinita, Upro, Aberdeen Café, Dog Nation Grill (seasonal) and The Bakehouse www.thebakehouse.biz all within walking distance. This saves our guests gas money, it promotes our locally owned business and reduces the amount of emissions on the road.
  1. Guest Participation. We ask our multiple night guests to help us in our conservation. We ask our multiple night guests, to reuse their towels and also sleep on their same sheets for a few nights instead of changing the sheets for them every night. We also ask when leaving their rooms to turn off lights and any personal electrical devices.
  1. Guest Amenities. We have lowered our rates during this economic downturn. One of the ways we have been able to do this it to reduce the amount of toiletries we give away. Of course if anyone forgets anything we have it for them at no cost. However, we do not have little bottles of shampoo and conditioner in all the rooms. We have found that most people use it once and throw it out. Those little plastic bottles really add to landfill waste. Most guests bring their own shampoo and if they forget we are happy to supply it to them.
  2. Recycle Ink Cartridges: Save 10% off your stay at the Inn by recycling printer ink cartridges! Simply bring them when you check in and receive your discount. Cannot be combined with any other offer.

Little steps that truly go a long way!!!
